The Markle Solutions team of therapists and mentors has specialized training and experience to work effectively with these issues by implementing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Therapy.
Family Systems Approach
The Family Systems Approach recognizes the family as the client. We strongly believe that when the family works together to make changes, the presenting problems can be dealt with more effectively and change is long-standing. Family therapy may include the whole family or the young person and one parent. We have found that the most effective treatment for many of the issues faced by teens and young adults, in particular self-harming behavior and drug and alcohol abuse, is family therapy. Skilled family therapists assist families to improve communication skills, teach conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills, and help foster more meaningful and closer relationships between parents and their child.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) involves learning effective coping skills, new ways of interpreting and responding to stressful situations, changing unhelpful or destructive behavior patterns, and relating to others in a healthier way. Both the client and therapist work together to determine goals, homework assignments, terms for success, and how to maintain success. CBT is one of the few forms of psychotherapy that has been scientifically tested and found to be effective in over three hundred clinical trials for many different disorders. In contrast to other forms of psychotherapy, CBT is usually more focused on the present, more time-limited, and more problem solving oriented. CBT is specifically known for its effectiveness with issues such as addictions, substance abuse, depression, anxiety and more.
